War Memorial

It is located in the Municipal Garden in front of the Town Hall.

The embossed picture in the background of the War Memorial’s place was made by the sculptor Dionisis Gerolimatos and refers to the battles of the Greeks from the ancient times until 1940-1941.

The copper statue of Nike (Victory) was made by the sculptor Giannis Parmakelis.

Kamares

The Old Aqueduct is a piece of the Byzantine era’s work. The current shape of the monument , however, is due to the work of Suleiman II (1530 A.D. approximately).

It was used for the water conveyance from the Symbol Mountain to the Old Town. The magnificent monument is made up of 60 arches of 4 different sizes and the maximum height is 52 meters.

In the old town’s square one can find the house of Mohamed Ali, founder of the last Egyptian Dynasty. The beautiful building of Macedonian architecture is Egyptian Property. Mohamed Ali’s “konaki” consists of two parts, the ground floor and the first floor.

In the centre of the square in 1934 bronze equestrian statue was erected in honour of the Egyptian Sultan, a work by the Greek sculptor k.Dimitiadis.

Wix Mansion

The German Baron Adolf Wix had the building constructed in 1899 in order to use it as the head offices of his trade activities and as his house.

It has a lot of common architectural elements with the neighbouring building of today’s Town Hall.

During the 1980’s it came under the ownership of the Municipality of Kavala.
