The Municipal Folk Art Museum is located in a traditional building of the 19th century, in which the National Bank of Greece was housed, until 1935.

On the Ground floor there are the pictures and sculpture galleries with creations by the Greek artists, like the sculptor Polygnotos Vagis (1894-1965) from the Isle of Thassos.

In Nea Karvali (7km eastern of Kavala) one can find the historic and ethnological museums of the Greeks from Kappadokia.

Valuable traditional Kappadokian costumes, carpets of the famous Kappadokian School, old paintings of Saints, jewels and textiles etc. are exposed there.

The museum was awarded by the European Union as the best Museum of Europe in 1997.

Seventeen kilometers from Kavala, one can find the ancient city of Philippi.

Excavations started in 1861 and finished with the work of Greek archaeologists in 1956.

Very important finds are: the Via Egnatia, the ruins of the Roman Forum, the so-called prison of Apostle Paul, as well as the ancient theatre of Philippi that has a circle orchestra and balanced constructed subways.
